This is a handy, lightweight bottle pouch that attaches to a backpack shoulder strap or hipbelt with velcro straps.
It uses tough yet lightweight X-Pac material at the front, rear and bottom, with elastic mesh at the sides.
Reasons for a bottle pouch:
- Holds an extra water bottle
- More ergonomic than reaching behind you to access the side pockets of a loaded backpack
- Frees up a backpack side pocket (e.g. for a first aid kit, sit pad, sunscreen, alcohol fuel bottle)
- Lets you carry more water outside your pack
- Use to keep regularly used or valuable items handy - e.g. bandanna, buff, sunscreen, phone/gps or snacks
- Add a bottle pouch to a backpack lacking them
Specifications
- X-Pac (likely VX07) and elastic mesh
- 10 x 5 x 14.5cm, 30g (including velcro loops)
- Molle attachment system of loops on the back + 2 velcro straps to use with it
- 2 fabric hanging loops - one at front, one at rear
Pros
- Molle system of loops ensures a customizable and secure fit both vertically (shoulder strap) or horizontally (hip belt)
- Holds 500ml and 700ml bottles, including the popular smartwater bottle
- Detachable from backpack (e.g. hang from a tree or inside your tent)
- Elastic side mesh, semi-transparent and allows drainage
- The location can be customized to your liking
- Could use more than 1 bottle pouch
Cons
- One size only - the slim fit doesn't suit wide bottles
- Mesh at sides is possibly not very hard-wearing
- Less versatile than the 3F bottle pouch - no cinching drawcord closure or pocket at front limits it's ability as a secure storage pouch
- Not that much X-Pac used, really
