This is a handy, lightweight pouch that attaches to a backpack shoulder strap with velcro.
It has a cinching drawcord closure at the top, plus a mesh pocket at the
front for flatter items (e.g. a paper map, a credit card, a ticket, or a
smartphone).
Reasons for a bottle pouch:
- Holds an extra water bottle
- More ergonomic than reaching behind you to access the side pockets of a loaded backpack
- Frees up a backpack side pocket (e.g. for a first aid kit, sit pad, sunscreen, alcohol fuel bottle)
- Lets you carry more water outside your pack
- Use to keep regularly used or valuable items handy - e.g. bandanna, buff, sunscreen, phone/gps or snacks
- Add a bottle pouch to a backpack lacking them
Specifications
- 210T polyester fabric with cinching drawcord
- Mesh front pocket
- Plastic mesh bottom
- 2 velcro attachment straps
- Fabric loop (for hanging)
- Two sizes:
- S: 10 x 8cm diameter - fits 500ml bottle
- L: 15 x 9.5cm diameter - fits 1L bottle (~$1 USD more)
Pros
- Detachable from backpack (e.g. hang from a tree or inside your tent)
- The location can be customized to your liking
- Can use more than 1
Cons
- Orange or blue colour is chosen for you
- May need further cord / elastic to secure taller bottles
- Less substantial velcro when attaching to a vertical strap (e.g. shoulder strap). Using on a horizontal sternum strap might be more secure
- Extra line loc'ed elastic pictured at top of bottle is not included, but adding something like it is probably a good idea to prevent top of bottle moving around
